Alexander Alison was born in Dundee, Scotland on 2 June 1850, the son of John Alison and Ann Young. (The 1851 Scotland census lists John and Ann Alison, living on Murraygate St in Dundee. John was a 25-year-old carpenter (born in Dysart, Fifeshire) and Ann was 35, born in Markinch, Fifeshire. Their son, Alexander, was ten months old and had been born in Dundee.)
Alexander was trained as a banker. (In the 1871 Scotland census, he was 20 years old, a bank clerk, living with his wife's family at 41 Reform Street in Dundee.) He was working for the Bank of Scotland when he and his wife, Christina Horsburgh moved to London, Ontario, Canada to work for the bank there. With them were their children Jane Ann (called Jean) Alison (born 1871) and John Alison (born 1872.) While they were living in Canada, their third child was born: Alexander Alison, Jr, who arrived on 28 August 1874.

Karen IzzoI inherited some wonderful treasures from both of my grandmothers - boxes of old documents and photos. Some were identified, some weren't. But they led me on a wonderful journey of discovery. I'll share my stories with you, and hope that you'll allow me to help you with your journey of discovering your family stories!
